How could I forget to post about one of the biggest events of my entire life?! After living in the USA for all of my <mumblety-mumble> years, as of mid-July I have MOVED TO PORTUGAL!!!1!!one!!
No, not bustling Lisbon, nor the touristy Algarve, nor the elite playground of Melides (as if I could afford it), but the second largest city, Porto (aka Oporto). Not the crowded hilly expensive historical district, but more towards the center, and the main Metro lines. :-) You can see the Casa da Música and Rotunda da Boavista from our apartment, just a few blocks away, and a tiny sliver of ocean on the horizon, just a few miles away.
So, you may be wondering, do I intend to get involved in the local tech scene, and/or keep speaking at conferences? Yes and yes — I’m retired, so I don’t have as much impetus to keep up on things and will soon be even more behind the curve, but there are some timeless ideas (or old ones being rediscovered) that I can talk about. I am awaiting acceptance or rejection from several conferences (as usual) already, though the visa rules are playing merry hell with my ability to commit to anything outside Portugal between mid-October and maybe as far out as February.
And I intend to start brewing mead again, and might find (or even start!) the local homebrewing scene.
